We read everything and answer most things within two working days.

What is worth writing about

  • A correction. If a number here is wrong — a recoat window that does not match the tin you bought, a substrate described in a way that does not match what you found under the wallpaper — say so, and say which product and batch you were using. Corrections get published as an update to the entry.
  • A job that went wrong. The entries that help most are the ones where something failed: a filler that shrank, a colour that went chalky in a steamy room, a coat that flashed because the wall was too cold. Those make better reading than the ones that went smoothly.
  • A product data sheet you think contradicts something written here.

What we cannot do

We cannot tell you what colour to paint your room, price your job, or assess the condition of your walls from a photograph. For anything involving possible lead paint, asbestos-backed panels, damp or structural movement, talk to a qualified tradesperson where the building is.

Press and permissions

You are welcome to quote a short extract with a link back to the entry it came from. For anything longer, ask first: [email protected].
